Summary
Qiao Mei never expected to wake up inside a novel—especially as a background character doomed to be forgotten. In the story, her namesake was an overweight, country girl mocked for her looks and pitied for her fate. Spoiled by her ailing grandfather and despised by cruel relatives, her life was headed for disaster the moment her grandfather died and the family vultures moved in to claim his estate.
In a desperate bid to protect Qiao Mei’s future, her grandfather hatched a plan: get the dashing soldier Xia Zhe drunk and force him into a marriage with Qiao Mei, using scandal to trap him. The scheme worked—but it marked the beginning of Qiao Mei’s miserable fate in the original plot.
To make things worse, Qiao Mei had once possessed a mysterious jade from Xia Zhe. But her cunning cousin tricked her into giving it up, turning the cousin’s family wealthy beyond imagination.
But this Qiao Mei isn’t the same. After transmigrating, she wakes up in the middle of the drunken night meant to change her destiny—and refuses to follow the script. She scares off her grandfather, avoids the forced marriage, and finally faces the mirror, horrified by her bloated, sunburnt appearance. Determined to change her life, she sets three goals:
- Lose weight and reclaim her health.
- Restore order to her chaotic home.
- Protect the jade at all costs from her greedy relatives.
But the biggest surprise? The aloof Xia Zhe, who should hate her, suddenly starts acting kind… even protective. Could the cold male lead’s heart be warming up to the new and determined Qiao Mei?
